Ken Grunke is executive director of the PLOWS Council on Aging, who said his group’s mission of providing meals, transportation, counseling and other support to seniors in the Palos-Orland area in the southwest suburbs is more vital than ever during the COVID-19 outbreak.

PLOWS Council on Aging has never missed delivering a single meal to any of its clients in 45 years. And the nonprofit human service organization is not about to let anything, even a worldwide pandemic that prompted Illinois’ stay-at-home order last week, disrupt that now.

“We’ve had a huge response from the community about volunteering — people have been calling us off the hook,” PLOWS Executive Director Ken Grunke said. “They are working from home, kids are off school. People are responding and saying, ‘this is an emergency, how can I help?’ They have been so incredible.”
